Working at Princess My Party is a dream come true…mostly. Most of our cast members are able to play multiple characters and they’ve got some opinions about which characters are the best and which characters are the WORST! From heavy wigs to tricky accents, some characters can be a real pain to get right. On the flip side, every performer has that one character that they always get excited to go out as. This week’s cast spotlight will give you an inside look on what characters are a dream come true, and what characters belong in the castle dungeon.

“My favorite character to portray is Elsa. I have many reasons for her being my favorite. First, she was the first character that I portrayed with Princess My Party and Let it Go was the song that I sang during my interview. My love grew for her character after Abby and Aimee told me that I sounded just like Elsa (even when I knew I didn’t), but just the approval made me feel more confident to continue. Second, Elsa is a very strong and independent character that kind of had to figure out life on her own, which I can relate to a lot. Her kind of shy, but aware, and also powerful personality is something that can just come natural to me. The entire movie is about how true love will save you, but that does not always mean a prince or princess, it can mean a friend or family member, which gives children another view on the usual fantasy of what love is. Elsa just don’t need no man. Another reason is because EVERYONE knows Elsa. Everyone knows the songs, the movie, the dance, and the story. You walk into a room and it will not matter what kind of day you were having, because almost every child will run up to you and be absolutely amazed that a REAL Elsa is there in front of them.

My least favorite character to portray is Snow White. Not because she is not as beautiful, wonderful, or as strong as the other characters, but because of how her character makeup is done and the voice is quite hard to perfect. Another reason is because not many little princes and princesses these days know Snow White’s whole story, or her songs, or even the basics. This can often be difficult to get some of the more shy children to interact, because they are not as familiar as if it would be Ariel, Anna, or Moana.”

My favorite character to see go out is Cinderella. It’s the costume that I have invested the most money in, topping out at about $1000 with the gown, wig, etc. Cinderella’s story is simple and everyone knows it so, she is easy to play. She is a classic, elegant, and poised princess.

My least favorite character to see go out is Thor. I actually took it off the website although we do offer him. I am secretly in love with Chris Hemsworth so, I never have felt that we could measure up to the glory that is Thor.”

“My favorite character to play is Belle because it sends the message that girls should never be ashamed of being intelligent. Belle also is not afraid to stand up for what is right, even to a big, scary beast. Belle also has one of the most gorgeous gowns of all the princesses. Wearing it makes you want to waltz around the room all day long.

In my opinion, the absolute worst character to play is Sleeping Beauty. She only speaks 18 lines in the whole film, which makes it hard to channel her character and personality. She also has a very difficult speaking voice. It is very dainty, yet almost operatic, making it hard to recreate.”

“My favorite character to play is Anna! I am considered to be PMP’s most “likable Anna”. Just like me, she is gets into uncontrollable trouble and is very gullible! I love her perky and bubbly attitude. I feel she is very unappreciated so I make sure I always appreciate her!!!

The worst character I’ve ever had to play was Spiderman! Being the daughter of the CEO, I have to play everything when asked, even if it seems silly! So when our performer got sick the day of a party so I had to fill in as Spiderman! I don’t like having fabric touching my face and it made it hard to breath and see. I can’t believe our normal guy can do backflips and tricks in that costume.”

“Fun fact you probably didn’t know about me: my favorite character to play is HECKIN MOANA. For real, she is a BEAST. Like, Mulan got down to business and defeated the Huns. Whatever. Moana? At the age of 15, her grandmother gave her this shiny green rock WHILE LAYING ON HER DEATHBED, and immediately took charge. Um. Did someone say GIRL POWER? But also, she’s super dorky and clumsy and kind of a nervous mess, but a proud one. And her story, though set many years in the history of the Pacific Islands is a spectacular coming of age story. (Don’t believe me? Please listen to “I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors),” then come talk to me) Not to mention, a party with my girl is bound to have some sick JAMS with the soundtrack playing in the background.

Next to Harry Potter, Star Wars is my absolute favorite film franchise and I am a huge fan of the newer episodes, particularly BB-8. (I have 20 BB-8 items…) And I find Rey to be a wild inspiration. It just makes me SO SAD that I can’t portray her correctly with my height. I feel that one of the biggest challenges in channeling a character, is also adapting to their physical aspects and idiosyncrasies. As Rey is often booked in large groups, I find it incredibly hard to channel that tough posture amongst very beautiful, tall, and strong-bodied talent.”

“I absolutely love being Merida! She is such a fun and energetic person. I also love the fact that she stood up to the old traditions that was upheld in her time. Fighting and winning her own hand makes her such a inspiring character. She also isn’t afraid to be herself, which means I don’t have to act like a traditional princess while still being a princess.

My least favorite character to play is Branch. I literally want to die every time I have to be him. I can’t move. I can’t see. I am a pretty good mascot if I say so myself, but whenever I am Branch I lose all my pizzazz I have as a mascot performer. It takes three other people to help me get out of Branch because I can’t even lift my arms to get the costume off.”

“My favorite character to be is Ariel! Although the red eyebrows are less than ideal, I love her personality! She so bubbly and determined, wanting to learn more. She went after her dreams, and she didn’t let anything stop her. Also, I love her pink ball gown!

My least favorite character is definitely Branch. I don’t know how other people can do solo parties as branch as I cannot get out of that costume alone. I also just generally can’t see well out of him, and may have accidentally hit a kid a few times in him before.”

“My favorite character to play is Jasmine. She is such a feminist and I think it’s important for girls to grow up and know that feminism isn’t a dirty word. And most everyone you know is a feminist, because feminism plain and simple is equality for human kind.

My least favorite character to play is Elsa or really any blonde character, just because no matter what I do with my hair even when it’s in a wig cap, the Elsa wigs are so small on me, and it takes an eternity for me to pin down the wig to cover my black hair.”

“My most favorite character is Anna. She is awkward and quirky just like me. She teaches girls that family is much more important than anything else! I also love her travel dress because it is so comfortable (not to mention the awesome cape). Don’t believe I’m obsessed with frozen? I have a singing Olaf build a bear and an Olaf mug with me at college!

My least favorite character I have played is Wonder Woman. I am very short. Superheroes are tall. The costumes we have, while very good, do not suit me well. One is too big, the other is very form fitting, which I am not comfortable with. How any female superhero can fight the bad guys in a skirt is beyond me. I give major credit to all who have accomplished accurately portraying these characters. Did I mention that I absolutely can’t look tough in pictures? Princess smiles are habit for me! ”

“I’ve only played two characters and I have to say that my favorite will always and forever be playing the Queen of Hearts because I get to be a completely different person and play a character that isn’t anything like who I am as a person. I get to have tons of fun and play a villain that scares some people and yet makes others happy at the same time and I absolutely love it. It’s weird to say but playing a villain is absolutely awesome and it also helps let off some steam when things are rough.

On the flip side, I played Peppa Pig and it was awful. I hated every second of it because the costume is simply just pink leggings, a pink undershirt, the long puffed out pink dress, the black shoes that don’t stay on very well, pink gloves that aren’t awesome, and the mascot head which is creepy looking in itself. I also think what makes it worse is that since it so thin and loose you think you’ll be pretty alright temperature wise, but that’s so far from true, you still sweat buckets in it.”

“My favorite character to play is Belle. This is because she shows kids that reading and being independent are important qualities, and she also show that just because a guy likes you doesn’t mean that you need to follow them. I love Belle because she teaches kids valuable lessons.

My least favorite character to play is the Shopkins mascot. I normally love being a mascot, and being able to interact with kids, but the shopkins mascot is super big and I have a very hard time maneuvering in it. I also have never had a very good experience playing that mascot, because the kids were never much into that huge cupcake.”

“y favorite character to play surprisingly isn’t Sofia, it’s actually Peter Pan!! Peter is so fun to be because you can act like a child and do the funniest or least “princess” things, and no one cares because your Peter Pan!! Also Peter Pan normally always has Tinkerbelle with him and I love working with other people rather than alone!! HAVE I MENTIONED THAT WHEN IM PAN, I DON’T HAVE TO WEAR A LOT OF MAKEUP? That’s probably the best part (I hate putting on falsies so it’s super cool when I don’t have to).

Do I even have to say my least favorite? It’s clearly Shimmer and Shine. If you’ve ever been around me while not in character as one of those two, I’m CONSTANTLY complaining about the wigs. They are gorgeous and look just like the characters. And while their looks are everything, their weight is not. THEY ARE SO HEAVY. It take me at least 15-25 minutes just to get that thing on my head and secure. They also give me a headache after an hour in it. Don’t get me wrong, I am in LOVE with how they look but it’s so difficult with the wigs”
